Namibia information and highlights
Namibia is in the southern part of Africa, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Kalahari desert, North of South Africa. It is a unique country in Africa in terms of population, flora and fauna. Weather and wind have over the centuries shaped the landscape in Namibia. The country is geologically very interesting, bizarre yet familiar, deep gorges in different shades make the Fish River Canyon and the Naukluft a breathtaking sight. Twyfelfontein’s massive rock structures are decorated with mysterious rock paintings and engravings made thousands of years ago. The highest sand dunes in the world surround the Sossusvalley in the ancient Namib Desert. Along the coastline pelicans, cormorants and herons share the beach with thousands of seals. The country has a huge wealth of wildlife and is known for it’s substantial beef exports.
Namibia has been independent since 1990 and was the last African colony to become independant. The population is a mixed set of indigenous peoples and descendants of South Africa and several European countries including Netherlands, Germany and England.
